At Fairway School, we believe that physical activity and sport play a vital role in supporting our pupils’ physical health, emotional wellbeing, and overall development. The PE and Sports Premium is additional funding provided by the government to improve the provision of physical education, physical activity, and sport in primary schools. This funding is designed to help schools make sustainable improvements that benefit all pupils.
We use this funding purposefully to enhance the quality and variety of our PE and sports offer, increase daily activity levels, and promote healthy, active lifestyles. Our approach includes investing in high-quality equipment, enriching our curriculum with a broad range of sports, supporting swimming and forest school, and encouraging active play throughout the school day.
On this page, you’ll find details about how we allocate our Sports Premium funding, the impact it is having, and how we evaluate its effectiveness. We are proud of the active, inclusive, and engaging environment we foster for every child at Fairway School.
Swimming
Our children have swimming lessons for one term in Y4, Y5 & Y6.
-
Swimming lessons are held on a Friday afternoon at Northway School Pool (right next door).
-
Lessons are 45 minutes long and run by qualified swimming instructors.
-
Pupils change in single-sex changing rooms and the lesson is observed by Fairway staff.
-
There is no school uniform for swimming but pupils are asked to wear sensible costumes (not bikinis) and trunks.
-
Swimming hats are compulsory and goggles are optional. Swimming kits should be taken home after each lesson.
We ask parents and carers for a financial contribution towards swimming and provide support for those who are unable to pay.
End of KS2 Swimming outcomes for 2024-2025 are available within our PE and Sports Premium Statement above.
